It has been another successful year for those students studying Post 16 courses at The Coleshill School. There have been many excellent results and individual successes and the whole school
community can be proud of what has been achieved. The results this year reflect the inclusive nature of our Sixth Form and the diverse range of subjects that we currently offer.
This was the first year for many of the new reformed A Levels to be examined and both students and teachers nationally have therefore been faced with new, more rigorous qualifications. We are therefore pleased that our students rose to the challenge, with almost 40% of grades at A*-B.
Headteacher, Ian Smith-Childs commented:
We are pleased with the performance of our students. These results are the culmination of their hard work and the dedication of the teachers and the Sixth Form Team who have supported them.’
This year we are proud to also recognise the achievements of our students who are part of the Deon Burton Football Academy. Students from Warwickshire and the wider region have spent the year studying for Level 2 and 3 BTEC Sport Diploma, as well as training and playing football to a very high standard. The results in the Level 3 Diploma were very pleasing with the majority of students achieving high merits and some distinctions. A number of boys who studied the Level 2 course have now graduated to the Level 3 course for next year, which is a great achievement.
On the pitch the ‘Rochdale Mids’ teams have achieved great success, with the first team finishing 3rd and the second team finishing 6th in their respective leagues. We are also proud to see three of our stars, Steven Simpson, Justice Campbell and Luke McGinnell gain places at The Player Academy at St George’s Park, where they are excelling as elite young players.
These results have given our students the best chance for the next stage in their education or employment. The majority of our students have gained places in their first choice universities or colleges, with 30% attending Russell Group universities, whilst other students have secured quality apprenticeships. Some students are taking a gap year and applying for university starting in 2019 and one student has gone into full time employment. We wish all of our students the very best of luck in this next exciting phase of their lives and remind them that The Coleshill School is their school and they are always welcome to return.
