Day-jà vu – Arthur Terry teachers Josh Lomas and Joanne Day enjoy a school reunion with their former teacher, ATLP CEO, Richard Gill.
Richard Gill did a double take when he caught up with Arthur Terry English teachers Josh Lomas and Joanne Day – as this isn’t the first time the trio have been based at the same school.
Richard was the pair’s music teacher at Lichfield’s Friary School, where Josh and Jo were students from 2005 and 2008, respectively.
The teachers are now working at the Arthur Terry School – a stone’s throw away from Richard’s office – but even when they were appointed, they had little idea that fate (or the draw of working at an outstanding academy) would reunite them.
It was a genuine surprise – mainly because they last time I had seen them they were students of mine,” says Richard.
I knew they would be successful in whatever path they followed, but I’m pleased and proud that it led them to this school, where they are thriving among the ATLP family.”
Josh, who has worked at Arthur Terry School since 2015, says:
Richard was one of those inspirational teachers who you never forget. It was a nice surprise to see him again and it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to work here – plus, I don’t need to call him ‘Sir’ anymore!”
NQT Joanne, who joined the school this month, credits her former music teacher and head of year with having an instrumental impact on her life.
Richard is the reason I became a teacher! He was an amazing teacher and always had great relationships with the students – it’s lovely to see him again.”
Joanne – who is the vocal coach on Arthur Terry’s eagerly anticipated Rock of Ages production – is treading the same boards as Richard, who has pitched in on many a high school musical.
She may well follow in his footsteps once more – now that she has her sights set on becoming a headteacher!
