Slade Primary School’s headteacher, Helen Hastilow, celebrates her school’s phenomenal PTA.
It is rare to find a group of people so committed to making a difference to their community, and that have so much fun while they do it! The ‘Friends of Slade’ Group are making a phenomenal difference to the community at Slade Primary School.
Formed in 2015, the ‘Friends of Slade’ became the parent teacher association (PTA) for Slade Primary school and has gone from strength to strength during that time.
Michelle Smith, chair of the PTA, said:
The group have raised a brilliant £1053.28 this year. We do this for the kids. We love seeing the smiles on their faces.”
Having FOS has had an immense impact on children’s learning. Last year they raised funding to provide children with wet play resources, reading books for each year group, hold celebration days such as Diwali, Christmas, Easter, St Georges Day, Eid, dance workshops and more! They are now going to work on their next venture which is to fundraise for computing equipment. These experiences have enriched the children’s learning and this would not be possible without their support. Not only have they fundraised, but they have engaged parents within the community and have built excellent rapport with the staff.
Sabah Sohrab, class teacher and RE leader, also works within the PTA.
Friends of Slade are so hardworking and committed. They have taken on the responsibility to serve parents, teachers and above all, our children. They have given their time and efforts to improve the lives of our children for the betterment of the Slade Primary School community.”
Special recognition is warranted to Michelle, who currently leads FOS. We have all benefited from her support and willingness to motivate and ensure that events and enrichment are brought to the school community. A special thanks to Debbie, Kamilla, Robina, Tahira, Ayesha, Jenene, Naz and volunteers for bringing these events to life!
As headteacher, I am thrilled with the fantastic things they do for the school.
They are a phenomenal team and they care so much about our community and our children and that’s what makes them special. They really summarise everything that Slade stands for. The staff and pupils at Slade are incredibly thankful for all they do to support the school and the community. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us this year.”
