Employing students’ talents for future careers

The Coleshill School is working in partnership with local businesses to prepare students for the workplace.  B46 Business Community and local businesses, including SERTEC, are supporting the school by providing activities and events for students to enhance and develop their employability skills.

On Wednesday 5 April B46 Business Community held a mini-networking event with staff from Plott Creative and TruTac.  During the session they looked at four key areas to assist students in enhancing their employability skills including: the importance of networking, how to sell yourself in a professional manner to potential employers, presentation and communication and CV and interview skills.

Eileen Bishop, year 10 leader, said:

This is a fabulous opportunity for our students to engage in the world of work and improve on their employability skills.  It will also help the students realise how important it is to be aware of social networking and its potential pitfalls.”

Julia Burnett, assistant business manager, said:

Students have undertaken visits to local businesses, including a recent workshop tour at SERTEC.  This has been a fantastic experience for students to see what it is really like in the workplace.  They have had the opportunity to meet with staff and apprentices and ask questions about roles within those businesses.  We are looking forward to other events and sessions that we have planned over the next few months.”
