Our first half term

Some of Arthur Terry National Teaching School’s newest cohort of associate teachers reflect on their first half term.

Name: Emily Badham

Subject: Geography

Placement: Stockland Green School

“It’s been really good. I like the hands-on approach and the fact that you can meet together each week and discuss your experience. I wanted a course that offered the whole school experience and the Arthur Terry SCITT was the best in the area.”

Name: Oliver Bradley

Subject: Biology

Placement: Arthur Terry School

“I’m really enjoying it, working with other SCITT people and the course leaders. There’s lots of support, both academically and with the challenges of becoming a teacher. Arthur Terry is such a nice school and the whole department has been very supportive, while encouraging independence and opportunities, which are enabling me to push forward.”

Name: Emilia Taylor

Subject: Geography

Placement: Erasmus Darwin

“I love the fact it is tailor made to more support you if you want to take that new step. The course leaders are there for you and it’s useful to come back every Friday and talk to them. The help in those first two weeks and the teaching experience was crucial – you’re not simply thrown in at the deep end. It’s great to interact with people at different schools, with different subject knowledge and to share that across the group.”

Name: Jennifer Campbell-Williams

Subject: English

Placement: Fairfax School

“I worked as a teaching assistant at Arthur Terry for four years and wanted to stretch myself. I like the level of engagement on the course. It’s nice to be taught by experienced practitioners who are up-to-date with current education practice and skills. You get to have the school experience, knowing the students and teachers and you can share ideas.”
